According to researchers such as Bellenky and B.Norton, cognitive development cannot be separated from the formation of identity. For instance, a repressed/oppressed individual is often less likely to see herself/himself as a creator of new knowledge; instead, these individuals are more likely to be able to learn through more passive, transmissive modes of learning.
